Star Trails Above Hodgdon Meadow Campground

Whenever I go camping and get away from the city lights, I try to capture star trails in the night sky. Here I managed to get the deep blue sky I always love in these type of shots while the trees were lit by my campfire and a couple other nearby fires. Nothing beats an early spring camping trip, sitting by a warm fire while my camera collects some star trails for me.

Wapama Falls

Despite living relatively close, I had never made it to Yosemite during the spring when the waterfalls were in full force. I decided to change that this past year and planned a camping trip for late April. When I arrived, I found that my campground was cut off from Yosemite Valley due to a road washing out from the wet winter weather. Undeterred I took the opportunity to visit Hetch Hetchy Valley and Wapama Falls instead. The trail to Wapama Falls isn't difficult but I am out of shape and decided to carry my full camera bag and old aluminum tripod with it. I was tired by the time I arrived at the falls but invigorated by the shear power of Mother Nature. This image shows just a small part of the falls and doesn't show the magnitude but it's still one of my favorites from the year because carrying all my gear with me paid off.
